As usual, your credit union played an important role in social and educational events in and around Roscrea.
We continued to support the Roscrea People of the Year Awards, which honours local people who make a difference in our town. This year, the event was held in Grants Hotel and was a great success.
The poster competition and quiz for primary school children were a huge success, as was the visit of Santa Claus to the local primary schools. We continue to visit the Colaiste on a weekly basis and, indeed, the credit union were instrumental in the development of the new canteen and oratory. It is hoped to set up a youth committee through the Colaiste in the New Year, to help us further develop youth services.
On the sporting front, we are now the main sponsor of Roscrea Rugby Club and have sponsored Roscrea juvenile GAA club. For the first time ever, we have sponsored the Winter League in the Golf Club and continue to be one of the main sponsors of the St. Anne’s Golf Classic.
Our monster draw continues to be a great success, the format of which we changed this year, which gives ten members an opportunity to win the big prize on a night in our office. As you can see, we have a resolution before you to increase the quarterly deduction to €10, which will allow us increase the prizes, bearing in mind that the draw is non-profit-making.
We also supported Aonac Roscre, which took place in September – the first time in many years that any attempt has been made to hold a festival in Roscrea. We hope that this will be the start of an annual community festival, as the town has so much to offer.
As you can see, we continue to seek new ways of developing our credit union and our town. All suggestions will be looked.
